Why IPFS like peer-to-peer transfer protocols needed?

Peer-to-peer (P2P) file-sharing networks offer a distributed alternative to traditional client-server models. In a P2P network, there is no central server; instead, each user’s computer acts as both a client and a server. Users can search for and download files from each other’s computers.

The InterPlanetary File System (IPFS) is one of the most widely used protocols nowadays that uses a P2P mechanism to store and share data in a decentralized way. 

Unlike HTTP, which uses location-based addressing (e.g.,www.zeeve.com/index.html), IPFS uses content-based addressing (e.g., QmTUAr8vsuV4sj6mRGDXKhFfFZUrZ1pkjvTdECoN133Hgu). This means that instead of requesting data based on its location users request data based on its content. 

One of the advantages of using IPFS is that popular files are often saved/pinned by many people, which helps to keep them easily accessible. Think of all those Content Delivery Network(CDN) services people use to manage latency. With IPFS everyone experiences faster access without a CDN. 

However, if a file is not so popular and saved by any of the nodes on the network, it will be deleted. This can be a problem if you’re relying on IPFS to store important data. The solution is to run your own nodes and keep your content pinned. 

But again, running nodes and keeping track of all your pinned content can be a lot of work. That’s where decentralized storage and pinning services come in. These services make it easy to store and manage your data on IPFS, without having to worry about maintaining your own nodes.
