Shardeum is designed to keep hardware requirements for running a validator node low. This is achieved by offloading historical data to archive nodes and by increasing the number of nodes to reduce the load on each validator. This allows users to easily set up and run a validator node with minimal hardware requirements.
The platform is powered by a unique consensus algorithm that allows it to process transactions quickly and securely. Shardeum is built on a sharding architecture that divides the network into multiple shards, each responsible for processing a portion of the transactions. This allows the network to scale linearly, meaning that as more nodes join the network, the network's total capacity increases, and the transaction fees remain low.
Shardeum also utilizes a unique leaderless consensus algorithm called Proof of Quorum (PoQ) and PoS to ensure the network remains secure and resistant to malicious attacks. These require users to stake their tokens as collateral in order to validate transactions and receive rewards for doing so. This incentivizes users to remain honest and secure the network. Standby nodes, node rotation, PoS with slashing, and the permission participation attributes contribute to fortifying the security of the network.
Shardeum nodes are assigned dynamic address ranges across multiple shards. This allows for parallel and atomic processing of transactions, resulting in near-instant finality and incredibly low latency. The consensus process occurs at the transaction level, ensuring all transactions are processed quickly and securely.
